Assistant General Manager Full-Service Restaurant | Reports to: General Manager
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on, hospitality-driven Assistant General Manager to partner with the General Manager in leading one of our full-service restaurant locations. This is a leadership role for someone who thrives on the floor — someone who sets the tone for service, builds genuine relationships with guests and team members, and takes pride in running a tight, well-organized operation. You will be deeply involved in the daily rhythm of the restaurant while also developing the skills and perspective necessary to grow into a General Manager position.
What You'll Do
Guest Experience & Service Standards
- Set and uphold a high standard of genuine, attentive hospitality across all dayparts and service periods.
- Be a visible, engaged presence on the floor during service — connecting with guests, resolving concerns, and modeling the behavior you expect of your team.
- Ensure that every detail of the dining experience — from greeting to farewell — reflects the character and quality of the restaurant.
- Monitor and act on guest feedback, including online reviews, comment cards, and in-the-moment situations.
Team Leadership & Development
- Hire, onboard, train, and develop hourly team members; contribute to the hiring of supervisors in partnership with the GM.
- Lead pre-shift meetings that energize and prepare the team for service.
- Provide regular, specific, and constructive feedback to team members; conduct performance conversations with professionalism and care.
- Build a culture of accountability, respect, and continuous improvement on the floor.
- Identify and invest in high-potential team members, supporting their growth and advancement.
Operations & Financial Management
- Assist the GM in managing daily operations, including opening and closing procedures, scheduling, and labor management.
- Monitor and help control key cost categories including labor, beverage, and supply costs; contribute to variance analysis.
- Oversee cash handling procedures, POS accuracy, and end-of-shift reconciliation.
- Ensure proper maintenance of the physical space; communicate facility issues and coordinate with vendors or management as needed.
- Step into the GM role during absences and off-days, maintaining full operational continuity.
Bar & Beverage
- Maintain working knowledge of the cocktail, wine, and beer program; support the team in confident, knowledgeable menu communication.
- Oversee responsible alcohol service practices, ensuring compliance with local laws and company standards.
- Assist in beverage ordering, inventory, and tracking in collaboration with the bar team.
Private Events & Sales
- Partner with the events team to ensure private dining and buyout experiences are executed flawlessly.
- Serve as an on-site point of contact for event hosts, ensuring communication is clear and expectations are exceeded.
- Support the sales process by representing the restaurant's event capabilities to prospective clients when called upon.
Compliance & Safety
- Maintain a safe, clean, and legally compliant operation at all times, including food safety, allergen protocols, and labor law adherence.
- Ensure all team members hold current required certifications
- Conduct regular walkthroughs and safety audits; correct deficiencies promptly.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of restaurant management experience in a full-service, quality-focused environment; fine dining or polished casual experience strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to lead a team through high-volume service with composure, warmth, and precision.
- Genuine passion for hospitality — you notice the details guests notice, and you care deeply about getting them right.
- Strong financial acumen; comfort reading and reacting to P&L data, labor reports, and cost analyses.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly across all levels of the organization.
- Experience with scheduling software, POS systems (e.g., Toast, Aloha, Micros), and reservation platforms (e.g., OpenTable, Resy).
- Current Food Handler Certification and TABC/TIPS certification, or ability to obtain promptly upon hire.
- Flexible availability including nights, weekends, and holidays as required by the business.
- A genuine desire to grow — this role is built for someone who wants to become a GM.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive base salary commensurate with experience
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- Paid time off
- Dining privileges across the portfolio
- Growth opportunities
