Human Resources Manager

📍 Location: Long Island City, NY (In-Office) – Secondary location in Bronx, NY

Reports to: Human Resources Director

Department: Human Resources

Compensation: $85,000–$95,000 annually, commensurate with experience

Position Summary

The Human Resources Manager plays a vital leadership role in overseeing the development and execution of HR policies, programs, and services. Acting as a strategic partner to leadership and teams across the organization, this role is responsible for employee relations, recruiting, benefits administration, staff engagement, and compliance. The HR Manager supports a culture of high performance, equity, and employee satisfaction in alignment with Kommissary’s mission and values.


Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations & HR Policy

  • Lead investigations into employee relations matters and policy violations; produce detailed reports and actionable recommendations.
  • Support managers in addressing complex and routine employee relations concerns.
  • Maintain and revise the Employee Handbook to ensure legal compliance and reflect current policies and procedures.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Oversee the administration of employee benefits and act as liaison with brokers and third-party vendors.
  • Lead the benefits onboarding and open enrollment processes.
  • Design and manage progressive compensation and benefits programs that attract, motivate, and retain staff while adhering to legal standards.
  • Supervise payroll process and compliance.

Recruitment & Talent Pipeline

  • Manage the full-cycle recruitment process, ensuring the attraction and selection of high-quality candidates.
  • Develop long-term strategies to build and sustain a strong talent pipeline.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field (required).
  • Professional HR certification (SHRM or HRCI preferred).
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in an HR generalist or managerial role.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership with a structured, detail-oriented, and organized approach.
  • Track record of improving employee experience, engagement, and operational efficiency.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in HRIS and office productivity software.
  • Ability to adapt and solve problems creatively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.


Physical Demands

The position operates primarily in a standard office environment. It requires extended periods of sitting, as well as regular use of computers and office equipment.
