Dried Goods Food Buyer

Position Overview
A rapidly expanding food production and distribution organization is seeking an experienced Dried Goods Food Buyer to manage procurement strategy and vendor relationships across multiple product categories. This role is integral to ensuring the availability, quality, and cost-efficiency of dried goods and pantry staples used in large-scale meal production for a diverse customer base across New York City.
The ideal candidate will be a highly analytical, solution-oriented buyer with a passion for food, strong negotiation skills, and an ability to adapt quickly to fluctuations in the supply chain. This position is onsite and will require regular travel between facilities in Queens and the Bronx.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and purchase quality dried goods in appropriate volumes to meet operational demand.
- Monitor supplier performance and maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure consistent supply and pricing.
- Analyze inventory and sales data to generate timely and accurate replenishment orders.
- Stay informed on product availability, commodity trends, and food safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and reconcile physical stock with system data.
- Manage purchasing activities within contractual obligations and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with sales, customer service, and logistics teams to communicate purchasing opportunities or potential supply disruptions.
- Oversee the end-to-end fulfillment process, ensuring timely delivery and product integrity.
- Proactively identify areas for cost savings, improved sourcing strategies, and operational efficiencies.
Candidate Profile
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- 5+ years of professional buying experience, preferably in food distribution or related industries.
- Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
- Deep understanding of inventory management and procurement processes.
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, and time management capabilities.
- Ability to multitask and respond to multiple priorities in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Suite.
- Self-motivated problem solver with a passion for food.
- Valid driver's license and ability to commute between operational facilities.
Preferred:
- Experience building or working with procurement software.
- Familiarity with Produce Pro or other warehouse management systems (WMS) specific to the food industry.
Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $80,000 – $125,000 annually, based on experience

Work Environment & Physical Demands
This position is primarily office-based with extended periods of sitting and computer use. Occasional movement and lifting (10–25 pounds) may be required.
