Director of FP&A
Location: Plano, TX
Reports To: VP of Finance / CFO
Industry Experience Required: Hospitality (Restaurants, Hotels, or Related Multi-Unit Operations)
About the Role
The Director of FP&A plays a critical role in shaping the financial direction of the company by delivering high-quality insights, accurate forecasting, and clear, actionable analysis. This leader partners closely with the CFO, VP of Finance, and Operations leadership to translate financial data into strategic business decisions.
This individual must be highly analytical, exceptional in Excel/model building, and deeply familiar with the financial dynamics of the hospitality industry. Success in this role requires the ability to bridge Finance and Operations—providing visibility, sparking dialogue, and helping leaders understand the “why behind the numbers.”
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning, Forecasting & Strategy
- Lead the development of annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and long-range planning models for all business units and the consolidated enterprise.
- Partner with the CFO/VP of Finance to model revenue, labor, COGS, capital expenditures, and margins across the organization.
- Support the creation of long-term strategic and operating plans, collaborating with functional leaders across Operations, Marketing, Supply Chain, Real Estate, and IT.
- Build and maintain financial models to support scenario analysis, capital planning, and growth initiatives.
Reporting, Insights & Analytics
- Analyze current and historical performance across revenue streams, cost of sales, labor, controllable expenses, and operating margins.
- Produce weekly and monthly performance dashboards and reporting packages for senior leadership and ownership/investors.
- Conduct variance analysis (budget vs. actuals, forecast vs. actuals) and provide insights and recommendations to drive financial performance.
- Develop and refine automated analytics tools, dashboards, and BI-driven reporting in partnership with the Data/IT teams.
Operational Partnership & Decision Support
- Serve as a strategic finance partner to Operations, helping interpret financial results and identify opportunities for improved profitability.
- Provide actionable insights related to labor efficiency, menu/product mix, controllable costs, and sales trends.
- Collaborate with Operators and Department Heads to ensure financial goals are understood, tracked, and achieved.
- Support field leaders with data-driven insights, bridging the gap between operational behaviors and financial outcomes.
Executive & Board-Level Communication
- Prepare monthly and quarterly executive summary packages for leadership and investors.
- Present financial insights in a clear, concise manner, distilling complex data for broad audiences.
- Partner with executive teams to support strategic initiatives, capital planning, new unit pro formas, and financial evaluations.
Ad Hoc Analysis & Special Projects
- Conduct financial deep dives into underperforming areas of the business.
- Support M&A due diligence, real estate analyses, and other strategic growth initiatives as needed.
- Provide tools and analyses to support data-driven decision making across the organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Data Analytics, or related field; MBA or advanced degree a plus.
- 5+ years of FP&A experience required, with at least 3+ in hospitality (restaurants, hotels, venues, entertainment, or multi-unit operations).
- Advanced Excel skills (financial modeling, scenario planning, complex formulas).
- Experience with Mirus, Salesforce, Power BI, Venna, or Tableau, or similar preferred.
- Experience with restaurant/hospitality systems such as Mirus, Salesforce, or equivalent is a plus.
- Strong ability to extract, normalize, and interpret large datasets.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex analysis simply and effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to partner cross-functionally, especially with Operations leadership.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
