Head Chef – New Neighborhood Bistro Opening

$90,000-$120,000 DOE

We are seeking a passionate, technique-driven Chef to help lead the opening of a new neighborhood bistro in the heart of San Francisco, slated to launch in August 2025. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated culinary professional to be part of a small, independently owned restaurant offering competitive pay, profit sharing, and potential future partnership for the right candidate.

Rooted in the spirit of community and elevated by a market-driven seasonal menu, the restaurant will serve as a welcoming gathering place for locals and visitors alike. The concept focuses on approachable yet refined dishes, a thoughtful beverage program, and a warm, laid-back dining atmosphere.

This is a hands-on, working chef position. We are looking for someone who is excited to contribute ideas to both the à la carte and tasting menus, lead kitchen operations, and help build a strong culinary culture from day one.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead kitchen operations and be proficient on all stations
  • Maintain high standards of quality, consistency, and cleanliness in food storage and preparation
  • Ensure all mise en place is complete before service
  • Manage inventory, ordering, and daily prep in collaboration with ownership
  • Contribute to seasonal menu development and execution
  • Cook on the line nightly with attention to detail and timing
  • Oversee inventory, cost control, waste management, and time management
  • Support and collaborate with fellow team members; foster a team-oriented kitchen environment
  • Assist in staff meals and take initiative in overall restaurant cleanliness
  • Provide feedback and guidance to kitchen staff as needed
  • Perform a variety of back-of-house duties including prep, butchery, and cleaning

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience as a Sous Chef or equivalent position
  • Background in fine dining or progressive culinary environments
  • Strong understanding of kitchen systems, ordering, and inventory
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and sanitation regulations
  • Passion for seasonal, locally sourced ingredients and evolving food trends
  • Clear and professional communication skills
  • Ability to lead a team and manage deadlines under pressure
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends

This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in the launch and success of an ambitious, community-oriented bistro. We are seeking someone who is collaborative, driven, and eager to grow with the concept long-term.
